With just over 1 year in business, Minuteman Press franchise owner Frank Brown was honored to be recognized by the Neighborhood Development Center in Minneapolis as a finalist for their Entrepreneur of the Year Award. NDC’s Annual Entrepreneur Awards event “celebrates the economic and social impact of entrepreneurs.”

MINNEAPOLIS—Business owner Frank Brown, who owns and operates his Minuteman Press design, marketing and printing franchise in Uptown Minneapolis, was named as a finalist for the 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Neighborhood Development Center in Minneapolis. NDC's Annual Entrepreneur Awards "celebrates the economic and social impact of entrepreneurs." Frank says, "Being a 1-year-old franchise, it was an honor to receive recognition from NDC as a finalist for such a prestigious award. I owe it to my team and my relationships."

Frank Brown entered into business with Minuteman Press in March 2015. Before franchising with Minuteman Press, Frank's professional background was on the production side of the printing industry: "I have been in printing since 1988 working in flexography, offset, foil stamping, embossing, and bindery. Most of my experience was in operations and production control. I am an efficiency expert." Frank was able to leverage his previous work experience and make the transition to business ownership thanks to the training and ongoing support provided by Minuteman Press International.

Frank also has some advice for those aspiring business owners who are looking into franchise opportunities and trying to figure out if franchising is right for them. He shares, “The best franchisee would be someone with vision, tenacity, and has business operations experience.  In my industry, knowing about printing is definitely a plus, but not necessary if the other characteristics are there in abundance because the training and support we receive cannot be matched.  You can always hire skilled and knowledgeable people to handle the technical aspects of the business, but it is the franchisee that must run the business."

Matt Peretz, Minuteman Press International Regional Vice President for Minnesota, echoes Frank's sentiments. He says, “Our ideal franchisee needs to be flexible and motivated. As an employee, you have bosses whose job it is to keep you motivated and on track. When you work for yourself, you have to constantly make the choice to do the right thing for your business or the easy thing. The franchisees that choose to do the right thing find themselves outpacing their colleagues by leaps and bounds."

Matt adds, "I'd like to congratulate Frank Brown on his well-deserved nomination as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the NDC. Frank is a dedicated business owner in Minneapolis who is also an exemplary Minuteman Press franchisee. A franchise is simply a proven system of business. The franchisee is the driving force that makes it successful."
