Agnes Freeman, caregiver with Home Helpers of Reston, receives national honor for providing extraordinary service

RESTON, Virginia  – (May 19, 2015) – Agnes Freeman was recognized as Caregiver of the Year at the 2015 Home Helpers National Conference in Orlando, Florida. Freeman is a caregiver associated with the Silverman’s Reston Home Helpers office.

Freeman was recognized for her extraordinary efforts with a client of three years. As the client’s health deteriorated, Freeman began to help coordinate hospice care. Communicating with family members throughout this journey—including three sons, their wives and children—became one of Freeman’s most important roles.

At the client’s funeral, one of the sons mentioned Freeman in the eulogy. It was a beautiful testament to how the family regarded Freeman’s care for their mom.

“Agnes really became a part of their family,” Home Helpers’ David Silverman said. “The extra energy and attention she gave to the family to help them through this trying time is exactly what families in these difficult situations need from their caregivers. We’re not surprised she won—she deserved it!”

Home Helpers President Emma Dickison presented the award to Silverman in Orlando last week, saying Freeman met the family’s challenges with grace and skill.

“This client’s family, like so many others, was forced to make tough choices,” Dickison said. “I’m incredibly proud of how Agnes was able to help not only the client, but also the family members who were counting on her support. This is just one example of how we are able to help families across the country each and every day.”

Home Helpers specialists strive to become a member of the family—there to help with personal hygiene and dietary needs, cleaning, giving medication reminders, placing wake-up calls, and providing transportation and companionship on an hourly, daily or weekly basis.
