FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sport Clips Haircuts Celebrates 1,000th Store Opening with $10,000 Donation to YMCA Sports-themed hair care franchise gives back to the state and Springboro, Ohio community at store opening event Springboro, Ohio (March 11, 2013) –Sport Clips Haircuts, the nation's leading men's and boys' hair care provider, celebrated the opening of its 1,000th store at 782 N. Main Street in Springboro, Ohio with a $10,000 donation to the YMCA of Greater Dayton's Coffman Family YMCA branch on March 9. The franchise reached its goal to have 1,000 stores by the end of 2012 with the landmark opening that was recognized with a soccer-themed event for the community. Now in its20th year, Sport Clips has stores in 44 states and aggressive plans to open 200 locations in 2013. This past year, 161 new Sport Clips locations were opened in communities across the U.S. by local owners. "What a great way to become a part of the fabric of this community by opening the 32nd store in Ohio…1,000th in the nation, offering jobs and business investment opportunities to our franchisees, and giving back to great programs such as the YMCA and its Strong Kids Campaign. It's a win-win!" says Sport Clips Founder and CEO Gordon Logan. "I joke that when we started franchising Sport Clips in November 1995 with only one company store, we could only dream of reaching 100 locations much less 1,000. Now I tell people ‘I knew we'd get here, I just didn't think it would take this long!' It's the hard work of our support team, area developers, team leaders (franchisees), store managers, stylists and other team members that makes Sport Clips a continued success across the U.S. and in Canada." The company grew from its roots in Texas throughout the Midwest and Southeast for its first 10 years before expanding to the West Coast; then, after three years of building its brand there, Sport Clips moved into the Northeast U.S. in 2011. Logan says the company was intent on not growing any faster than it took to develop the infrastructure needed to support its franchisees and team members to ensure an exceptional client experience. Logan attributes Sport Clips' successful growth to adopting and committing to the same core values Coach Lou Holtz used to build championship football teams. With the Coach's blessing, the company's cornerstone from day one has been: "Do Your Best. Do What's Right. Treat Others the Way They Want to Be Treated." Another reason Logan cites for the company's success is having extensive professional training and support systems in place. He says this is the major reason same store sales have continued to grow with only one store closure in the past two years, which was a decision to not renew the lease in a foundering re-development project. "Having a solid track record has always been a higher priority to us than growth for growth's sake. We looked at Springboro for a Sport Clips location several years ago, but decided at the time the market was not yet large enough. There has been significant growth since then, and we're excited to be a part of the fast-growing local retail scene," Logan adds. "Opening here in Springboro is also important to me personally. When I was in the Air Force I spent time at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, about 25 miles north. I am eternally grateful to all who contributed to our achieving this milestone, but 1,000 is only a waypoint towards bigger and better things!" The 1,000th Sport Clips store is owned by Eric and Jill Everman of nearby Liberty Township. Eric says he was attracted to the Sport Clips opportunity because he could maintain his current job, "Sport Clips supports franchisees with industry experts, and the process of getting started and running the business has been very thorough." The Evermans have plans to open two additional Sport Clips in central Ohio. Today's events included a "Come Kick It With Sport Clips!" soccer benefit for the Coffman Family YMCA and the "Y's Strong Kids Campaign." Participants took turns in making 1,000 goals in honor of Sport Clips 1,000th store. Each person attempting a kick received a coupon for $5 off an MVP Haircut Experience in the store, and the store in turn will make an additional $5 donation to the YMCA of Greater Dayton. Sport Clips in Bellbrook, Beavercreek, and Dayton are also accepting the "5 for 5" offer. Wright State University soccer coaches and players volunteered from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., providing one-on-one soccer tips and instruction for participants. At noon, Springboro Mayor John Agenbroad joined with Sport Clips in a ceremonial "towel cutting," symbolizing Sport Clips' signature MVP Experience prior to comments offered by Logan and David Thompson, Group Vice President of the YMCA of Greater Dayton. "On behalf of the Coffman Family YMCA's members, volunteer board and staff team, I want to welcome Sport Clips to our neighborhood, congratulate them on the exciting achievement of opening their 1000th store and thank them for their generous donation to our Strong Kids Campaign," says Thompson. "The Strong Kids Campaign ensures that local kids and families are never denied participation in YMCA programs and membership due to their inability to pay. We are very excited to have such a strong community partner in Sport Clips teaming up with the YMCA to change the lives of kids and families in our community!"
